I have noticed that startup and shutdown take longer than XP, probably because there's more going on. With RAM as cheap as it is right now, you're probably just wasting it if you have 2 GB of RAM or more and XP. It's an even bigger difference on the system with 4 GB of RAM. Firefox launches about twice as fast on Vista compared to XP on my laptop if I wait for SuperFetch to finish prefetching first. I can turn on the PC, wait a while, and virtually every program I use starts almost completely from RAM and nearly instantly. I assume that most of the speed increase is due to SuperFetch. I've used it with 512 (someone else's PC), and it feels like XP with 256 - slow, but usable. I have Vista on everything from a 1.8 GHz Pentium M with 1 GB of RAM (which is 3 years old and has not been upgraded since purchase) to a Core 2 Duo E6300 with 4 GB of RAM, and it always feels faster than XP. I can only assume that these people have 512 MB of RAM, because that's the only instance where I've noticed this.

If you still have problems it may be a problem with the card so you could try exchanging it as it is new.I notice that one of many arguments for people who have switched back to XP after using Vista for 30 seconds is that Vista is slower than XP on the same hardware. Your power supply should be ample to run this card (according to stats it needs approx. to see if there is anything wrong and generally sort itself out.Īs your machine worked fine until you installed the new graphics card, make sure that the card is seated correctly and that any extra power cables that the card needs are connected correctly (if necessary remove the card and reinsert it to make sure). So it checks the main areas of the disk etc.

The reason the machine takes a bit longer to start up after one of these crashes is because Windows detects that such a critical fault occurred it did not have a chance to do anything, not even blue screen. Unplugging the power supply for a minute caused the safety to reset. It turned out to be an electrical fault with the motherboard itself, and unplugging a USB device was pulling an arc which overloaded a safety cut out in the power supply.

I had a PC where if you unplugged a USB drive it wold just turn off with no warning and the only way to get it to come back on was to unplug it and wait a few minutes, then plug it back in. I have experienced the exact same problem that you have although not with a game. I say this because of the following reason: If your PC cut out and you had to unplug it to get is back working again then it could be an electrical fault.

S240HL E207WFP ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (ATI AIB) It is also worth noting that I tried running the game several times, first was increasing the settings to high and hitting 'Apply settings', second was changing the settings back to medium and hitting 'Apply settings', third was hitting Benchmark, and fourth was trying to load into my save.Ĩ.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 803MHz (4-5-5-15) I tried both Dark Souls 2 and Titanfall on highest possible settings, no problems. This game is easily the most graphical intensive but I did try a couple of other games to make sure it didn't happen with anything else.

It also wouldn't turn back on without me unplugging the power cable and putting it back in, it also needed around a minute to turn back on afterwards. I am talking the whole shebang, no errors, no pop-ups, like I just pulled the power plug. However, after installing the new card, I downloaded the drivers, checked everything worked as normal, loaded up the game, changed the settings from Medium to High, clicked 'Apply Settings' and BAM! my PC instantly crashed. Bear in mind that I have played this game for around 20 hours and completed the story with no problems. So I recently bought a new R9 280x graphics card to replace my HD 7770.
